Tuesday 17 May 2016

We have been busy with our 3rd Science unit Pulley's and Gears in Grade 4 and Forces Acting on Structures in Grade 5.  We have also been busy with a few writing activities.  We have written a poem ( 2 stanza poem with rhyming verse) .  I have asked the students to memorize and present their poem ( can be a video).   They will present them on May 19th.  And now, we are working on writing a new ending to a Fairy/Folk Tale.

We will also start our last Social Studies unit:  Early Societies, 3000 BCE - 1500 CE in Grade 4 ( Focusing on aspects of the daily lives of different groups on an early society) and First Nations and Europeans in New France and Early Canada in Grade 5 ( Focusing on the interactions between First Nations and Europeans in Canada prior to 1713).

Just a reminder to keep signing and looking at the feedback provided in the cahier de Devoirs to help students achieve to their potential.

Thank you for your continued support!

Bonne et Heureuse Année!!

I hope everyone enjoyed their holidays.  The last week of school was so busy, I didn't get a chance to write thank you notes.  I am sorry.  Thank you for the thoughtful gifts!

Before the holidays, we started our second Science unit:  Light and Sound  in Grade 4 and Conservation of Energy in Grade 5. We will continue these units for the month of January.

HOMEWORK CHANGE

At this time, I am going to encourage some growth with les devoirs.  Keeping in mind to continue to vary the activities so that they cover ALL areas of the program:  Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing.

In Grade 4: I am suggesting that students give more information on each activity.

For example:  J'ai lu le livre " Sami aime la pizza".
C'est l'histoire de Sami qui mange beaucoup de pizzas.

                     J'ai joué Duolingo.
J'ai fait la lecon 1. or J'ai appris le masculin et le féminin.

In Grade 5: I am suggesting that students move on to writing paragraphs; giving me more information on their activities.  To start, I am going to ask that 2 out 4 entries be paragraphs.  The other 2 can stay the same.

I ALSO ENCOURAGE STUDENTS TO EDIT THEIR DEVOIRS FOR SPELLING.

Thank you for your continued support!!
